Smith, Askin named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Sean Smith and Bayley Askin have been named Bulldogs of the Week for April 18-24. 

Smith, a freshman from Pascagoula, batted .538 with two home runs for Gulf Coast last week and extended his hit streak to 12 games. He had a home run in both ends of a doubleheader against Itawamba, and finished the week with seven runs scored. During the streak, Smith is batting .429 with four home runs and 11 RBI. 

Askin, a freshman from St. Martin, won all five of her matches as Gulf Coast earned a trip to the national tournament by finishing third at the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament in Ellisville. She won three doubles matches with Ashleigh Chelette and two No. 4 singles matches.

Anderson Dulaney, a sophomore from Long Beach, won two matches for Gulf Coast as the Bulldogs finished second in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament to earn a spot in the national tourney. He won at No. 2 doubles and No. 4 singles in MGCCC's win over Meridian, and was one game away from closing out his singles court against Jones when the match ended.

Luke Reed, a sophomore right-hander from Louisville, Ky., turned in another trademark dominant performance with a three-hitter in a 3-0 win at Southwest Mississippi. He struck out nine without allowing a walk. Reed leads the MACCC in innings pitched (64.1) and is tied for the lead in wins (7) and complete games (5).
