Earl King, Class of 2012

Former Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College football and track standout Earl King (1963-65) was one of 15 inductees into the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges Sports Hall of Fame's 2012 class.

King's Gulf Coast legacy began after he was ruled ineligible to play his senior season at Biloxi High School following his transfer from Terrebonne, La.

In the spring of 1963, he earned a full football scholarship after a tryout impressed longtime Gulf Coast head football coach George Sekul. He was a starter on both sides of the ball during the 1963 and 1964 seasons, playing running back and cornerback for the Bulldogs.

King's hard work earned him All-State Honorable Mention honors along with earning letters in football and track. The following season, King averaged 5.7 yards per carry and was a First-Team All-State honoree.

He earned a full scholarship to the University of Southern Mississippi, where he played one season before injuries halted his career.

King went home to Louisiana where he started a successful trucking company. He was a 20015 inductee into the MGCCC Athletic Hall of Fame.
