Thomas Mitchell “Tommy” Boutwell

Tommy Boutwell attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College from June 1965-January 1967. He was the third baseman on Coach Curly Farris’ first state championship baseball team in 1966. Boutwell was also the starting quarterback on the 1966 Bulldog football team, leading the team to victory (33-0) over the Pearl River Wildcats for the first time since 1948 on Nov. 12. That same year, he led the Bulldogs to victory over the Jones Bobcats to secure the first Bulldog state championship since 1948. He scored the winning touchdown on a 1-yard sneak in the fourth period. In post-season play, he led the team to victory in the Shrine Bowl in Shreveport, La. In 1966, he was named All-State, First Team Offensive All-Star and All-American. At The University of Southern Mississippi, Boutwell led the football team to the first-ever victory over Mississippi State University in both 1967 and 1968. He was selected Senior College Honorable Mention All-American and was drafted by the National Football League, playing for the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins.
