Bio

Clifford “Sonny” Brown

Perkinston Junior College/Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College (1961-1963) / Basketball

Coach Bobby Weathers signed 6-foot-1 Clifford “Sonny” Brown to a basketball scholarship on August 4, 1961. As a freshman guard, he played in 13 games, including the victory over Pensacola in the Perkinston pre-Christmas Tournament, before being sidelined with an injury. Nevertheless, he was a member of the team that won the South Division Trophy on March 3, 1962. The state basketball tournament was played at Perkinston for the first time since 1929 with Weathers’ team finishing second. Brown was a returning sophomore on Weather’s 1963 team and became a leading rebounder and a double-digit scorer. Once again, he took part in the victory that netted the trophy in the Perkinston pre-Christmas Basketball Tournament, this time by defeating Pearl River 85-59. At season’s end, Brown had a record of 63 field goals and 130 defensive rebounds. He netted 139 points during the season.
