Charles Cooper

Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College/Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (1975-1995) / Coach (Golf)
Hattiesburg, Mississippi

A counselor and administrator at Gulf Coast, Cooper also coached golf, 1975-1995. His teams won the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) state golf championship in 1979, 1986, 1990, 1992, and 1993. In 1983, his golf team was runner-up in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in Region VII. His teams were NJCAA Region XXIII (Division III) champions in 1990, 1992, and 1993. His 1990 team placed fifth in the nation, his 1992 team placed seventh in the nation, and his 1993 team placed fourth in the nation. He was NJCAA Region XXIII Coach of the Year in 1990, 1992, and 1993. He was also MACJC Coach of the Year in 1979, 1986, 1990, 1992, and 1993. Cooper retired from MGCCC in 1994, but remained as Golf coach for one final season in 1995. In 1996 he was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame. Cooper was the only Mississippi junior college golf coach accorded that honor in the 20th century.
