Tim Corcoran was a vital cog on the 1997 baseball team that won the state championship, and he went on to play three seasons in Major League Baseball.

Corcoran was signed out of Slaughter, La., arriving at Perk after compiling a 1.06 ERA and 227 strikeouts in 136 innings his final two years at Jackson High School.

He struck out 14 batters in a complete game 4-1 win at Copiah-Lincoln on March 8, allowing three hits. A week later, he beat Holmes and improved to 3-1 on March 24 with a 7-1 win over Jones County.

Corcoran won against East Central, hitting 91 mph on the radar gun in a 9-4 victory. He struck out 13 Warriors in 6.2 innings, then beat Hinds in his last regular-season start.

He saved his best for his last performance in a Bulldogs uniform. In a must-win game in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament, he struck out 17 Holmes batters in a 7-2 victory in Meridian. He didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning and struck out eight in the final three innings. He finished the game with his seventh strikeout looking.

Corcoran had a 6-1 record and 3.00 ERA in his only season at Gulf Coast. He had 50 strikeouts in 42 innings, allowing just 27 hits. He had been picked by the New York Mets in the 44th round of the 1996 MLB Draft and joined that organization after his freshman season.

Corcoran played in three seasons for Tampa Bay, making his debut with two innings of scoreless relief against Milwaukee on June 14, 2005. He appeared in 10 games with one start that year. He started 16 of 21 games he appeared in during 2006, posting a 5-9 record with a 4.38 ERA. He made his final nine appearances in 2007 before returning to the minors where he pitched until 2010.

Corcoran pitched in the Pacific Coast and Mexican leagues in 2012, also pitching in the Dominican Republic, Japan and in the International League from 2012-14. He had a 61-56 record in the minor leagues, with a 4.19 ERA.
