Perkinston Junior College (1957-1959) / Baseball, Basketball, Football, Track
Long Beach, Mississippi

George Vernon Ehlers holds a unique record — he is the college's most photographed male student in the 20th century. He was a four-sport letterman and an active student in Youth Congress, a class president and in the P-Club.

Another important factor behind Ehlers' record is that he played three years of college sports at Perk. He was a student at Perkinston Agricultural High School and eligible to play college ball earlier.

He made an immediate impact on the diamond his first year by leading the team in stolen bases. During Ehlers' time, the baseball team won three South Division titles and a state championship.

He brought that same winning attitude to the football field. Playing both offense and defense, he always seemed to be around the bail. Ehlers continued to stand out, earning National Junior College Athletic Association All-American (1959) and Ali-State honors (1958 & 1959).

Ehlers lettered in football and baseball at Florida State University. In 1961, he returned to Mississippi and began a long career as a teacher and administrator in the Long Beach School System.
