Bio

Gene Ganucheau

Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College (1970-1972) / Football
Biloxi, Mississippi

Gene Ganucheau, of Biloxi, attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College from January 1970-January 1972. He graduated on May 14, 1972. He was the tight end for the 1971 state championship team and National Junior College Athletic Association national championship team. He was selected for All-State and All-Star in 1971. In 1971, at the Shrine Bowl in Savannah, Ga., (which was also the NJCAA national championship game) the team’s tight end, Ganucheau, smashed into five Fort Scott (Kansas) Greyhounds, turned back, dodged right, eluding all five tackles and sped 40 yards down a rain-soaked field into the end zone for a touchdown. Marcus Holland, executive sports editor of the Savannah Morning News, said that Ganucheau’s touchdown run in the third period “was one of the most determined anybody will witness.” MGCCC won that game 22-13 and took the 1971 national championship.
