Eddie Gifford

Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College (1966-1968) / Football
Biloxi, Mississippi

After graduating and playing football at Biloxi High School in 1966, Eddie Gifford attended the Perkinston Campus from September 1966 through May 1968. He started 22 consecutive games at defensive end during the 1966 and 1967 Mississippi Association of Junior Colleges championship seasons.

Gifford was selected by his teammates as one of two permanent co-captains his sophomore year. He was named defensive end for George Sekul's Team of the Decade.

The 1966 football team was the first team to beat Pearl River in 18 years. In celebration, MGCCC President J.J. Hayden granted a Pearl River holiday to students. In 1967, Eddie was co-captain for the entire season and helped the Bulldogs win over Pearl River for a second year.

After completing his degree at Gulf Coast, Gifford continued playing football for the Mississippi College Choctaws. He started 18 consecutive games for Mississippi College at defensive end, and was named Best Defensive Player during his senior year.

Eddie received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from The University of Southern Mississippi in 1975. He served six years with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and received an honorable discharge in 1976. Eddie married Kathy Evans of Fairhope, Alabama, who he met at the Perkinston Campus.
