James Gregory Hibbard

Gulfport, Mississippi

He was a pitcher on Curly Farris' Mississippi Association of Junior Colleges South Division championship team of 1983 and the starting pitcher for the South Division championship team of 1984. The former Bulldog was named to the 1984 All-State, All-Region, All-Star, and All-American teams. After Gulf Coast, Hibbard played baseball at the University of Alabama. Hibbard began playing for the Chicago White Sox in 1989 and remained for four years. In 1990, his record with the White Sox was 14-9. Hibbard signed with the Chicago Cubs in 1993 and finished the year with a 15-11 record. He closed out his professional career with the Seattle Mariners, playing for that team from 1994-97. In 1992, Hibbard was inducted into the MGCJC Alumni Hall of Fame. His 1999 induction into the MGCCC Athletic Hall of Fame earned him the distinction of being the first person named to both. Hibbard continued his association with MGCCC during the 1990s by conducting off-season baseball camps for boys in collaboration with Cooper Farris, Curly's son and successor as MGCCC baseball coach.
