Phillip Carl Hickam

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (2014-2016) / Golf
Olive Branch, Mississippi

Phillip Hickam began playing for MGCCC in October 2014. Throughout the spring season of 2015 Hickam consistently aided the team with low scores culminating in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College State Championship victory at Columbus on April 20. In the wake of this championship, Hickam was named to the All-MACJC First Team. The state championship placement secured a berth for MGCCC in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Region 23 Tournament at Laurel on April 28, 2015. MGCCC won that tournament with Hickam finishing just short of All-Tournament status. The Region 23 victory paved the way for the MGCCC team to compete in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament May 19-22, 2015, at Goose Pond Colony Golf Course in Scottsboro, Alabama. At nationals Hickham shot incredibly low scores for the first two days, but could not keep up that pace. In the end he and a teammate, Grant Motter, tied for second in the individual scoring, and the team wound up with a second consecutive third-place trophy. Both Hickam and Motter were accorded All-American First Team honors. Hickam and Motter led the 2015-2016 MGCCC golf team. At the 2016 MACJC State Tournament at Corinth, MGCCC again won the state championship, and Hickam was named Second-Team MACJC. From Corinth the team went to Senatobia for the April 25-26, 2016, NJCAA Region 23 Tournament. The squad advanced to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament at Plymouth, Indiana, on May 24-27, 2016. At Plymouth, MGCCC placed fourth in the nation, and Hickam took Second Team All-American.
