Robert Harold "Bobby" Holmes

Holmes played football, basketball, and baseball at Perk from 1947 to 1949. In 1947 he was the football team co-captain and was named to second-team All-State. In 1948, he was captain of Perk’s state and co-national championship football team and was named to the All-State and All-American first teams. After leaving Perk, Holmes played football for Mississippi Southern College, where he set the record for most touchdown passes in a game (four) and career passing (58 percent). In 1950, Holmes was named to the first team All-Gulf Coast Conference. He returned to Perk as an assistant coach from 1959 to 1961. His coaching honors included induction into the University of Southern Mississippi Hall of Fame in 1966, induction in 1985 into the Mississippi Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and the 1986 Mississippi Gulf Coast Distinguished American Award. He was coach, athletic director, and assistant principal during a 28-year career in education.
