John Long

Perkinston Agricultural High School & Junior College (1959-1960) / Basketball, Track
LaFollete, Tennessee

In 1960, Long averaged 22 points per game for Gulf Coast and earned All-State basketball honors that season. Also in 1960, Long ran track and won a Mississippi Association of Junior Colleges title in the mile run, along with top-three finishes in the 880-yard run and the long jump. Long earned his master’s degree and doctorate from The University of Southern Mississippi and embarked on a 40-year teaching and coaching career in Stone County, Laurel and Gulfport.
