Davis Melton

Tallassee, Alabama

Davis Melton, PJC Class of 1949, was a star player for PJC’s first national championship football team. He was a two-time All-State selection and led the team in scoring in 1948, when Gulf Coast went 12-0 and was named Junior College National Co-Champions by the Williams Football Ratings Bureau. He also lettered two years each in track, baseball and basketball, twice making the All-State team in baseball and track.

Melton went on to a standout career in football and baseball at The University of Southern Mississippi, then served in the military during the Korean War. He taught and coached in public schools, including in Lumberton and Wiggins, for several years.
