Roger Moore, of Wiggins, attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College from September 1982-May 1983, January 1984-May 1985 and September 2002-December 2004. He graduated from MGCJC on Aug. 2, 1985. He played baseball for Coach Cooper Farris at Stone High School during his senior year and for Curly Farris at MGCJC in 1984 and 1985. Known as “Lightning,” due to his ability to steal bases, Moore was 36 for 36 stolen-base attempts in the 1984 season and 67 for 69 in the 1985 season. His stolen-base record stood until broken five years later by Matt Lawton. His second-place stolen-base record stood in 2013. In 1985, he scored 71 runs and had 49 walks, a record for walks that still stood in 2013. He was chosen as Mississippi Association of Junior Colleges All-State and All-Star in 1985, was a National Junior College Athletic Association All-American and All-Region 23 in the same year. From 2003-2007, he was the volunteer first-base, base-runner and outfielder coach for MGCCC baseball.
