Pass Christian High School retired her jersey number in 1972, as she headed to MGCJC, where she played basketball and volleyball. She was a member of the 1973 Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) state and national junior college championship basketball team. She was also a member of the 1974 basketball team which won the Mississippi AIAW (MAIAW) state championship, the AIAW District III championship, and which finished as runner-up in the nation at the AIAW national women's basketball tournament. In 1974 she was named to Outstanding College Athletes of America. After leaving Gulf Coast, Scurfield served as an American Red Cross volunteer, and in 1999 she was the director of counseling for the Navy Family Service Center in Gulfport.
