Bio

Byron Rasco

Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College (1962-1964) / Football

Byron Rasco, MGCJC Class of 1964, was a star of the Harold Wesson era and set records while at Perk that still stand. The Pascagoula native was a standout running back for the Bulldogs for the 1962 and 1963 seasons, leaving Perkinston as the school’s record-holder for single-season rushing yards (698 in 1963), yards per carry (7.1 in 1962) and longest run from scrimmages (73 yards vs. Southwest in 1962). In that Southwest game, a 77-6 Gulf Coast triumph, Rasco scored a still-school-record five touchdowns and 30 points. Also a standout in track, Rasco won the 200-yard low hurdles at the state track meet. He played one year at the University of Alabama before transferring to Delta State and starring on that school’s celebrated 1965 team. Rasco was a project manager at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula and a former president of the Mobile-area MGCCC Alumni Association.
