Sean Robinson

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (2012-13) / Tennis
Diamondhead, Mississippi

Sean Robinson of Diamondhead was part of a dominant Gulf Coast men’s tennis squad that went unbeaten in 2013, and he was a big part of that dominance.

After attending Mississippi State for a year, he transferred to MGCCC. He quickly slotted into the No. 2 singles spot in the tennis team’s lineup and played No. 1 doubles with Alexander Puyol. The Bulldogs dominated all opponents in the regular season, winning 105 of 108 courts to go 12-0.

They swept to an undefeated Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges season and were also great against out-of-state opponents. Robinson beat his Faulkner State singles opponent 6-0, 6-1 and teamed to blank the doubles team 8-0.

He lost only one time. Meridian’s Derrick “Ducky” Troutman beat him in their first meeting, but he turned around and swept him 6-3, 6-2 the second time they played.

Robinson won the No. 2 singles and was part of the No. 1 doubles team that dominated the MACJC Tournament to claim the men’s first state championship since 2002. Gulf Coast finished with 32 points, seven more than Itawamba.

The Bulldogs won seven of nine courts at the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 Tournament to easily win that title. Gulf Coast had 18 points, 12 more than Meridian, and Robinson beat Troutman again, this time 6-0, 6-1. He also won the No. 1 doubles title with Puyol in straight sets.
