Bio

Jerry Edward Rouse 2003

Perkinston Junior College (1956-1958) / Baseball, Basketball, Cheerleading

For Jerry Edward Rouse, sports have always been a part of his life. This love of athletics led him to Perkinston. Rouse had an outstanding freshman year in basketball. The 6-foot-1 forward averaged 12 points a game and earned Mississippi Association of Junior Colleges All-State basketball honors.

Rouse would also make memories on the baseball diamond. He was a curve-balling right-hander who made a habit of pitching complete games. During one stretch in the 1958, he twirled 28 scoreless innings and helped guide the Bulldogs to a MAJC South Division title.

Rouse played two years at Northeast Louisiana University and earned a bachelor's degree. He pitched several years in the La-Ark Amateur Baseball League and was named an All-Star in 1960.

In 1961, Rouse began a 37-year career as a teacher in the Long Beach School System. In 2003, he was an alderman in the city of Long Beach and still loves to lace them up and compete in decathlon at 65.
