Clovis Rushing

Perkinston Junior College (1965-67) / Football
Pascagoula, Mississippi

Clovis Rushing graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1965 and was a two-way starter on the high school football team as both an offensive and defensive tackle. He received a football scholarship to Perkinston Junior College in 1965.

While at Perk, Rushing starred as a rugged two-year starter at defensive end. He also served time as a tight end on offense. His sophomore year was the first year in the era of legendary Coach George Sekul’s reign as head coach of the football team.

The 1966 Bulldog team beat the Pearl River Wildcats for the first time in 18 years, for which the whole school was given a holiday by college President J.J. Hayden to celebrate the victory. The Bulldogs won the 1966 MACJC State Championship with a victory over Jones County Community College.

The Bulldogs played in and won the Shrine Bowl that year, played in Shreveport against Navarro (Texas) Junior College, winning the game 21-7. Rushing was named All-State Honorable Mention at the conclusion of the season.

After graduating from Gulf Coast, Rushing was awarded a full football scholarship to Delta State University, where he played defensive end as a starter for two years. After graduation from DSU, he traveled all over the country. He retired in 2021 in Natchez, where he now resides.
