Steven George Sekul

Sekul played football and baseball for Perk, 1955-1957. In 1956, he was named First-Team Mississippi Association of Junior Colleges All-State and Honorable Mention Junior College All-American. From 1957 to 1961, he played and coached at Mississippi Southern College and earned a master's degree.

In summer 1961, he signed on as an assistant football coach and head track coach at Perk. In 1966, he became both head football and track coach. In 31 years as head track coach, his thinclads garnered five MAJC South Division and five state championships with a few individuals taking national laurels.

His 26 years as head football coach yielded two National Junior College Athletic Association championships (1971 and 1984), eight South Division championships, seven state championships, and one state co-championship. In addition, he guided the Bulldogs to three second-place state championships and four bowl game victories, including the two that resulted in national titles. Sekul retired in December 1991.

In 1999, he held the record as the Winningest Football Coach in Junior College History for a career record of 204-77-5. Sekul was named to the University of Southern Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1968. He was chosen as MAJC Coach of the Year twice. He was named MAJC/ NJCAA Region XXIII Coach of the Year four times. In 1996, he was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame.

On October 21, 2000, Sekul was named to the MGCCC Alumni Hall of Fame, becoming the second person (after Greg Hibbard) to be inducted into both Halls of Fame.
