Sekul, the brother of Gulf Coast head football coach George Sekul, spent his freshman season serving as backup quarterback on the 1974 Mississippi Association of Junior Colleges-championship team. A year later, he was starting quarterback for the 1975 state-championship squad and earned National Junior College Athletic Association Honorable Mention All-American recognition and All-State honors, and was named the MAJC South Division’s Most Valuable Offensive Back. In 1975, he led the nation in completion percentage and was fourth in the nation in both passing yards and total offense. He was also quarterback at Southwest Oklahoma University.
