Bio

Stone Thames

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (2006-2008) / Golf
Laurel, Mississippi

Stone Thames played golf at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in 2006-2008. He was the first Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Ping All-American at Mississippi Gulf Coast. He won the Hubert Tucker Award for the lowest average in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Conference for the 2006-2007 season and competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) D-11 Golf National Tournament in 2007 and 2008 as an individual qualifier.

More than a decade after his graduation with honors, Thames still holds several team records including third all-time wins in a season (2006-2007). They include fifth all-time lowest 72-hole total (287), which he received at the national championship (2006-2007) and fourth all-time career wins.

He also holds the record of all-time counting scores in a season with 100 percent (2007-2008). In golf, five players compete each round, and the highest score is thrown out. Thames never had a score that was thrown out in his career.

In 2007, Thames received NJCAA All-America honors and finished No. 8 in the nation. In 2008, he helped Gulf Coast to the MACJC Region XXIII championship. Thames graduated with honors in May 2008 and transferred to William Carey University, where he played golf for two years. After completing his bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2010, Thames attended dental school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, graduating in 2016.

He is now a dentist and resides in Laurel.
