Bary Thrash

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (1998-2011) / Coach (Soccer)

Bary Thrash was a drafting and design instructor on the Perkinston Campus when he was named the first men’s and women’s head soccer coach in 1998.

In 14 seasons, his men’s teams had 13 winning seasons and compiled a 174-58-11 record (.739 winning percentage), winning nearly 83 percent of their South Division games (106-21-3).

The Bulldogs won three National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 championships, three Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges titles and 10 Mississippi Association of Junior and Community Colleges South Division crowns. When he retired from coaching and the college in 2011, the women’s teams had a 149-69-14 record overall and a 78-19-7 MACJC South Division record. The Lady Bulldogs were four-time MACJC state runners-up, won three South State championships, two MACJC titles and one Region 23 championship.

In September 2018, the soccer field at the Perkinston Campus was named Thrash Field. During the dedication ceremony, MGCCC President Dr. Mary S. Graham commented on Thrash’s contribution to the college. She said, “He built the Gulf Coast soccer program into one of the best in the state and was a great mentor to his players both on and off the field. Naming the field for Bary is a great honor he earned through his tireless work for our college.”
