Kai Thrash

Thrash, the son of longtime Gulf Coast soccer coach Bary Thrash, was a member of the college’s first soccer team in 1998 and also played tennis for the Bulldogs. He helped the 2000 Bulldog tennis team win a Mississippi Association of Junior and Community Colleges and National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 title and laid the foundation for championship teams at Gulf Coast despite suffering from cystic fibrosis. Thrash died in fall 2000, but his memory lives in the form of an annual endowment scholarship for soccer or tennis players. His soccer jersey number, 23, is placed on all Bulldog soccer jerseys in his memory.
