Henry “Spud” Wieniewitz

Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College (1971-72) / Baseball

Wieniewitz was a two-year letterman for the 1971 and 1972 baseball teams under coach Ken “Curly” Farris. He helped lead the Bulldogs to Mississippi Association of Junior Colleges titles in 1971 and 1972, which added to what would become a string of 10 straight MAJC baseball championships for Gulf Coast.

He compiled a .345 career batting average and was named centerfielder for Farris’ All-Time Gulf Coast baseball team. He also lettered in track in 1972 before walking on and earning a baseball scholarship at Mississippi State University. For 34 years, he coached champion college and high school teams.
