Bulldogs move into 2nd in South
Mississippi Gulf Coast sprinted out of the blocks Monday night at Meridian and never let the Eagles into the game. The Bulldogs won 72-56.
Gulf Coast scored 17 of the first 19 points in the game on the way to avenging an upset loss to Meridian earlier this season. The Bulldogs (14-6, 7-4 MACJC South) pulled into a second-place tie in the division with Pearl River.
Meridian falls to 5-15, 2-9.
Dedoch Chan (Fr, Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) continued his assault on the South, piling up 33 points. It was a new career high and is his sixth straight game of 20-plus points. He's averaging 25.5 points during the streak.
Chan had 20 points in the first half, matching the entire Meridian team.
DaJuan Moorer (Fr, Pensacola, Fla./Pensacola Catholic) added 15, with LaRaymond Spivery (Fr, Lucedale/George County) and Qua'darius Green chipping in nine each.
Gulf Coast remains one game behind Co-Lin, which won in overtime Monday, in the standings. The Wolves have the tiebreaker over the Bulldogs with three division games to play.
Southwest and Jones County are a game behind Gulf Coast, and the Bulldogs head to Ellisville on Thursday in a critical matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Another crucial game comes when MGCCC returns home for Sophomore Night on Monday. The game against archrival PRCC begins at 7:30.
