PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast dropped a back-and-forth game Thursday with Jones, losing 61-57 at the Weathers-Wentzell Center.
The Bulldogs (12-2, 4-2 MACJC South) fall into a second-place tie with Hinds in the division.
Dillyn Neely (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) had 15 points to lead the Bulldogs. Damien Wheaton (Fr., Bay Springs/Bay Springs) and A.J. Banks (So., Pearl River Central/Carriere) had 10 each.
Gulf Coast, which was playing without leading scorer D'yasmond Booker after picking up two technical in the previous game, was up 51-50 with 3:26 to play. Jones (11-3, 3-3) scored nine of the next 12 points to seize control of the game.
The Bulldogs now start a stretch of four straight road games starting Monday at Hinds. Tipoff in Utica is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
