Flanagan named All-MACCC South
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Melvion Flanagan finished second in the MACCC in scoring, and that's helped earn him a postseason honor.
The freshman guard from Alexandria, La., was named to the All-MACCC South First Team after averaging 19.9 points per game. In voting by South coaches, he received 44 of a possible 70 points, second-most in the division.
"We're proud of him," Gulf Coast coach Tim Ryan said. "He came in and did exactly what we asked him to do. We needed a scorer on this team, and he was our go-to guy."
Flanagan led the league in field goals (108), free throws (84) and minutes (587). His 85.7 percentage shooting from the free-throw line ranked third in the league, and his 39 3-point field goals was second-most in the league.
He had a 33-point effort against Hinds and 10 games with 20 or more points. Flanagan was named MACCC Player of the Week after combining that 33-point night with a 27-point game against Southwest Mississippi that included the game-winning layup in the final minute.
