Gulf Coast wins battle of Bulldogs

Mississippi Gulf Coast always has a battle when it travels to Ridgeland, and the Bulldogs survived another battle against Holmes on Friday.

Gulf Coast beat the other Bulldogs 2-0 with a goal in each half to improve to 7-4 overall, 3-2 MACCC.

"We were good in moments, just not very sharp in the final third," Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy said. "The game was pretty tight, but there are some good things that we could build on."

It's two straight for Gulf Coast headed into a rivalry showdown next Monday when No. 9 Jones visits Bary Thrash Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets are available at http://mgcccbulldogs.com/tickets, and the game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.

The first goal came on a long throw by Isaac Whitfield (Fr., Gulfport/Gulfport) in the 16th minute. Tobias Buch (So., Skovlunde, Denmark/Borupgaard Gymnasium) got just enough of it to watch it trickle across the goal line.

The dagger came late after a gallivanting run by Hayden Thomas (So., Clinton/Clinton). He got the ball into the area, and Alexander Mink (So., Long Beach/Long Beach) was able to finish things off in the 88th minute.

"In conference, it's all about getting three points," Handy said. "You want goal differential, but we took care of the main part, which is good."
