No. 7 Lady Bulldogs drop two

No. 7 Mississippi Gulf Coast lost twice Wednesday in an NJCAA top-10 showdown against No. 9 East Central at Biloxi High School. The Lady Bulldogs fell 7-5 and 8-0, the second game in five innings.

 

The Lady Bulldogs are 10-8 overall, 5-5 in MACJC.

 

Gulf Coast took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of Game 1 on a bases-loaded walk by Betty Mingo (Fr, Choctaw Central/Philadelphia).

 

After falling behind 3-1, the Lady Bulldogs got RBI doubles from Kaylynn Garrett (Fr, Oxford/Oxford, Ala.) and Kailey Hilderbrand (Fr, Hernando/Hernando) to tie it in the fifth. They went ahead 4-3 on an error later in the inning.

 

ECCC scored three in the sixth, and Gulf Coast got a sacrifice fly from Mya Hopson (Fr, Madison Central/Madison) in the seventh but could get no closer.

 

Garrett had three hits, and Madison Wall (Fr, East Central/Hurley) had two. Hopson drove in two runs.

 

Gulf Coast managed only three hits in the second game.

 

ECCC improved to 18-6, 7-5.

 

The Lady Bulldogs entertain Mississippi Delta on Friday. First pitch in the doubleheader is at 2 p.m.
