Softball gets swept by No. 9 ICC

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast got swept by No. 9 Itawamba in a softball doubleheader Saturday.

The Bulldogs lost 8-4 and 2-0 at Ross-Smith Field.

After Itawamba got two unearned runs in a three-run second, Gulf Coast tied it up. The Bulldogs got a K.K. Agner (So., Horn Lake/Magnolia Heights) RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Emaleigh Coates (So., Lucedale/George County) to make it 3-2 after three.

Breanna Green (So., Saraland, Ala./Saraland) dumped a single into left field in the fifth inning to make it 3-3.

Itawamba, however, scored twice in the sixth and three more in the seventh. Gulf Coast got an RBI double by Kristian Jones (So., Southaven/DeSoto Central) in the sixth.

Jones, Agner, Abbott Stafford (So., Glenmora, La./Glenmora) and Kate Brannan (Fr., Enterprise/Enterprise) had two hits for the Bulldogs.

Gulf Coast managed only one hit in the second game and falls to 20-23 overall, 12-12 MACCC. Itawamba is 33-7, 17-7.

Gulf Coast travels to No. 3 Copiah-Lincoln on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. The Bulldogs close the regular season Friday at Mississippi Delta.
