Simmons, White propel Bulldogs past Hinds
Mississippi Gulf Coast established dominance inside early and used that edge often, moving past Hinds 62-55 on Monday at Utica.
Kayla Simmons (So., Brandon/Brandon) led the Bulldogs with 18 points, and Daphane White (So., St. Martin/Gulfport) added another 17.
"We had a good inside night," Gulf Coast coach Hope Adams said. "Daphane and Kayla both had good nights. When they decided to score, they scored at will."
Mia Goolsby (So., Legacy Early College/Greenville S.C.) provided the outside threat by getting 14 points of her own.
Gulf Coast improves to 13-2 overall, 5-2 MACJC South. The Bulldogs remain tied for second with Southwest as the first half of the division slate ends.
Hinds is now 2-10, 0-7.
MGCCC led by five at halftime and maintained its advantage through the rest of the game.
"We played well in stretches," Adams said. "I'm a little harder on them than some might be, but I think we were off some defensively on some plays. Overall, though, we played pretty well."
The Bulldogs play Thursday at East Central. Tipoff in Decatur is set for 7:30 p.m.
