PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast almost rallied from 16 down in the final quarter but couldn't get it tied against No. 14 Trinity Valley, losing 58-55 at Dantzler Arena.
Katelyn Brinkley (Fr., Ridgeland/Ridgeland) had 15 of her 19 points in the second half to lead the comeback.
In the final game of the Bulldog Invitational, Gulf Coast trailed 49-33 heading into the final 10 minute. Allison Irby (Fr., Olive Branch/Lewisburg) hit a bucket with 57.6 second left to make it 58-55.
After a pair of empty trips, Gulf Coast had four fouls to give. They quickly used three before the Cardinals (10-2) forced up a shot. Gulf Coast rebounded with 7.7 left and called time.
After advancing the ball to the front court, the Bulldogs (5-5) weren't able to get a 3-pointer off.
Irby and Taelar Felton (Fr., Clinton/Clinton) had 11 points for Gulf Coast.
The Bulldogs will play in a two-day event in Pensacola starting Dec. 30. They play Calhoun on the first day and Miami Dade the second.
