PERKINSTON – New interim head women's soccer coach Jackie Rhodes has had to build up some confidence in her Mississippi Gulf Coast squad as it heads into MACJC play Wednesday.
The Lady Bulldogs dropped a 7-0 loss to 13th-ranked Lewis & Clark on Saturday in Raymond, where they will return to play Hinds.
"The morale is really low right now, so we're trying to bring it back in a competitive way," she said.
The Lady Eagles also got thumped by Lewis & Clark, 5-1, so both teams will be trying to get off the mat.
Hinds advanced to the state championship game, and Rhodes expects a formidable foe Wednesday.
"They're always going to be a quick, physical, straight-at-you kind of team," said Rhodes, who picked up her new title last week. "They're going to swing the ball from left to right up top, and they're going to be a big physical presence."
Gulf Coast (0-1) plays Hinds at 5 p.m. The team will see if their efforts on the Perkinston field pay off.
"We're really concentrating on applying pressure quickly, trying to get their competitive spirit up," Rhodes said. "We've been lacking a little intensity lately. That's our goal for Wednesday."
