Gulf Coast women blank Southwest

Mississippi Gulf Coast maintained its share of second place in the MACJC South Division on Tuesday by blanking Southwest 2-0 at Summit.

"The first half was probably the best soccer we've played," Lady Bulldogs coach Jackie Rhodes said. "They did all the right things, just the way we had drawn it up."

The Lady Bulldogs (3-1-1, 3-1 South) got a pair of goals from Jess Shepherd (5-6, Fr., Parrswood/Manchester, England) in the first half. L.T. Massey (5-6, Fr., Oak Grove/Hattiesburg) picked up an assist.

"We got a little sloppy in the second and gave up a couple of hard shots, but overall it was a good game," Rhodes said. "That's a good win on the road."

It the second shutout in a row for Kassady Walters (5-9, So., Harrison Central/Saucier) and the Gulf Coast defense. They have three on the season.

Southwest falls to 1-6, 0-4.

The Lady Bulldogs are 5-2-2 in their last nine South Division games. They close out the first half of the division schedule Friday when Meridian visits the new MGCCC Soccer Complex. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.
