Bulldogs lose twice at BRCC

Mississippi Gulf Coast dropped a road doubleheader to Baton Rouge on Wednesday night, falling 7-5 and 8-4 at Pete Goldsby Field.

The Bulldogs (2-4) took a 4-0 lead in the nightcap. Louis Morgan (So., East Central, Hurley) had an RBI single in the first inning. In the second, Jared Tribett (Fr., Lumberton, Lumberton) had an RBI double and was driven in by Dawson Walters (Fr., Tri-County Academy, Flora) on a triple. Walters scored on a single by Canaan Ray (Fr., Poplarville, Poplarville).

The Bears (10-11) got a run back in the second, three more in the third and three in the sixth.

Luke Welborn (Fr., Locust Grove, Locust Grove, Ga.) had an RBI double in the seventh, but the rally ended there.

Walters went 3-for-3 in the game, and Morgan, Welborn and Ray had two hits each.

In the opener, Gulf Coast fell behind 3-0 before getting a run back in the fifth. Down 6-1 in the seventh, Morgan singled in a run. Nick Sims (So., New Hope, New Hope) and Alec Hardy (Fr., Stone, Wiggins) had RBIs in the eighth.

The Bulldogs made three errors in the first game and four in the second.

Gulf Coast returns to Ken "Curly" Farris Field on Saturday when Illinois Central visits. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
