Gulf Coast blasts Blessed IJN Prep

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast scored all but 13 points from inside the paint and blew out Blessed IJN Prep 89-42 on Monday at the Weathers-Wentzell Center.

"We got a little better, but we've still got to mature," Bulldogs coach Jason Harrison said. "I think we started slow, and then we picked it up. We've got to get better at a lot of the fundamental things."

Gulf Coast has won five straight to open the season and will face a tougher test Tuesday in the final game of the MGCCC Thanksgiving Classic. The Bulldogs will tipoff against Southern-Shreveport at 2 p.m.

Damien Wheaton (Fr., Bay Springs/Bay Springs) had 14 of his 16 points in the first half, with half his total coming on dunks. The Bulldogs were dominant in the paint but didn't shoot a free throw all night.

Aaron Harrison (Fr., West Philadelphia/Philadelphia, Pa.) had 15 points, including 12 straight in the second half on a series of layups and drives. Anthony Ratliff (Fr., Terry/Jackson) had 12 points.

Gulf Coast doubled up Blessed IJN 40-20 in the first 20 minutes, then pulled even further away in the second half.
