PERKINSTON – Coming off an emotional double-overtime win at Hinds, the Mississippi Gulf Coast men's soccer team kicks off its home regular season Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs (1-1) will face an East Central team that traditionally has been a difficult opponent.
"They give us fits every year," Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy said. "They've always been a team that challenges you to bring your best every game. They're going to work hard and they're not going to give you anything easy."
Gulf Coast downed Hinds 2-1 on the road Wednesday. James Beattie had a goal and assisted on Jordan Parron's game-winner in the second extra session. Handy said he wants to see how his team responds after the high of a big victory against a traditional state power.
The Warriors (2-1) defeated Southwest 4-1 on Thursday. The matchup figures to provide a good barometer for Bulldogs, who will play at rival Pearl River on Friday in their first division matchup. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
"We couldn't ask for a better game headed into the South Division slate because they're going to push us," Handy said. "If there's a weakness, they'll find it."
