PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast broke out of a recent scoring slump and beat Southwest 4-0, but it wasn't quite the performance men's soccer coach Chris Handy was hoping for.

The Bulldogs (3-2, 2-1 MACJC South) got a pair of goals by Christian Inchima (Fr., St. Edmond Campion/Brampton Ontario), one in the 18th minute and another in the 89th.

"It's good we got a shutout," Handy said. "It's good that we got the right amount of goals, but overall, it's a disappointing performance from them, to say the least. We've still got a lot to work on. It's as simple as that."

He didn't think his team showed the proper urgency offensively, despite the four-goal margin. Griffin Bush (So., Pearl/Pearl) and Cisco Thomas (So., Meadowvale Secondary/Mississauga, Ontario) scored just on either side of halftime. Thomas' goal was a sublime chip from about 35 yards out.

Southwest falls to 0-4-1.

Gulf Coast travels to Meridian on Tuesday to play its final game of the first half of the MACJC South schedule. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
