Mississippi Gulf Coast got a late consolation goal from Moriah Minnis in dropping a 5-1 decision at Jones County on Thursday.
It might prove to be a vital lift for the Lady Bulldogs (1-5, 1-2 MACJC South).
"Getting that goal at the end of the game was a big boost for us, especially going into next week," said Gulf Coast interim head coach Jackie Rhodes.
Jones is unbeaten in three division games and four overall.
The Lady Bulldogs have home games against Meridian and Southwest next week. Those are two teams around Gulf Coast in the standings.
Gulf Coast trailed 1-0 at half, and Rhodes said her team played organized at the back. It struggled maintaining possession.
"I was pleased with the way we played for the most part," she said. "Our biggest weakness right now is our turnover ratio. We give away the ball a lot when we win it. "
Minnis scored on a header off Madi Giese's cross with 15 minutes left. It was her second goal of the year.
