Mississippi Gulf Coast ended a tough two-day road trip by beating Northwest 2-0 for the Lady Bulldogs' second shutout of the season.
Gulf Coast improves to 3-7 with the victory in Senatobia. The Lady Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker at Itawamba the day before, losing 2-1 in double overtime.
"We played well," Gulf Coast interim head coach Jackie Rhodes said. "I thought we might be sluggish after playing overtime yesterday and losing that way, but we didn't. It was nice to have a good performance."
Abigail Smith scored in the 29th minute, a goal that rattled in off the crossbar.
Madi Giese added a penalty kick with nine minutes to play to ice it.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action Tuesday against Holmes. Kickoff in Perkinston is at 2 p.m. That starts a three-game homestand, with Jacksonville College visiting Friday and archrival Pearl River arriving Oct. 7.
