Mississippi Gulf Coast closed out a strong second-half of South Division play by doubling Southwest 4-2 Tuesday in Summit.
The Lady Bulldogs (7-9-1, 5-4-1 MACJC South) got a pair of goals from Erin Dawe to finish 3-1-1 in the second round of division play.
"Playoffs were most likely not a possibility, but to be able to finish the season with a win was really great," Gulf Coast interim head coach Jackie Rhodes said. "Our play in the second half of the division was great. That's a huge step from where we were last year."
Meridian downed winless Copiah-Lincoln 2-0 to clinch the final playoff spot, knocking out the Bulldogs despite having an identical South record.
Dawe netted her first goal of the season in the first half as the teams went to halftime tied at 1. Her second made it 2-1, with teammate Jamie Dufault following with a goal of her own.
After Southwest cut its deficit to 3-2, Moriah Minnis scored with 38 seconds left.
"We played OK," Rhodes said. "We played well enough when you left the field you felt good about yourself."
Southwest finished the year 2-13-1, 1-8.
