No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast dominated No. 21 Itawamba on Monday, picking up a big MACCC road win.
The Bulldogs won 8-1 in Fulton to improve to 8-1 overall, 7-1 in conference play.
"Doubles was very strong," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "They were ready to play from the get-go. I'm very proud of the way they started out the match, the level they were playing at from the beginning. It didn't change when we went into singles."
The Bulldogs swept three doubles matches, with Isona Arnaus (Fr., Barcelona, Spain/Centre Lopez Vicuna) and Lauren Sullivan (So., Laurel/Laurel Christian) dropping just one game at No. 2. Dallas Tanner (So., Hattiesburg/Oak Grove) and Reagan Meadows (Fr., Olive Branch/Lewisburg) topped them, winning their first eight games to close things out.
Arnaus, Sullivan and Tanner dropped only one game each at Nos. 3-5 singles to help close things out.
ICC is now 3-5, 1-4.
Gulf Coast (8-1, 7-1 MACCC) plays an exhibition match against the University of New Orleans on Wednesday. First serves will be at 1 p.m., and the Bulldogs will resume MACCC play Friday when they host Southwest Mississippi at 2 p.m.
