Gulf Coast men’s tennis tunes up against Troy JV

PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast tennis coach Gary Bourgeois scheduled a match against Troy University's men's junior varsity, wanting to get his team revved up for two tough weekend matches.

The Trojans swept the Bulldogs, but Bourgeois' mission was accomplished.

"We haven't really been challenged to this point and I thought we needed to acclimated to the speed of a faster ball," he said. "It worked out perfectly. Hopefully, the results will show in this weekend's matches."

Gulf Coast's men and women play at Meridian at 10 a.m. Saturday. The teams will then play Marion Military at 1 p.m.

Both squads are undefeated after two MACJC matches.

Bourgeois stressed to the men after their Friday match aggressiveness. He thought the NCAA Division I squad attacked the ball earlier, robbing the Bulldogs of time.

"We need to keep our balls deep to control the middle of the court and not expose some of the weaknesses we have," he said.
