Nichols grabs NJCAA Pitcher of the Week
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Aidan Nichols had a sensational week in the circle last week, and it paid off again Wednesday when she was named NJCAA Pitcher of the Week.
The freshman right-hander from Brandon struck out 30 batters in 16 innings of work, picking up two wins while allowing only one run.
"It goes to show that all the hard work I've been putting in," Nichols said. "I was really relaxed on the mound, and it just reflects all the work in the weight room and the work with Coach Christie (Meeks)."
In a nine-inning, 2-1 victory over Copiah-Lincoln, Nichols struck out 16 while allowing just two hits and the one earned run.
She shut out East Mississippi 8-0 while striking out another 14 hitters. Nichols also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI.
She is 16-5 on the season with a 2.45 ERA.
