Bulldogs beat Bobcats by 12

Mississippi Gulf Coast won its fourth straight game to open the MACCC schedule, beating three-time defending champ Jones 56-44 Monday at Ellisville.

"We were there defensively," Bulldogs coach Hope Adams said. "We could have capitalized more getting buckets off turnovers. We could have been better on the fast break, but I was proud of what we did defensively."

The Bulldogs (11-3) held the Bobcats (4-11, 0-4 MACCC) to 31.8 percent shooting from the field. Jones made just 1 of 12 from the arc.

Gulf Coast didn't shoot it well from the field, either. The Bulldogs finished at 37.5 percent from the field and made 4-of-16 3-pointers.

Simaru Fields (So., Pass Christian/Gulfport) just missed a triple-double, getting 10 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.

"I'm always on her and telling her to do more, but she was able to build a stat line," Adams said. "She did well for us."

Je'Mya Evans (So., Gulfport/Harrison Central) led the Bulldogs with 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Tytiana Buckley (So., Meridian/Meridian) had nine points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Ja'Sharreah Hunt (So., Roxie/Franklin County) had 11 points.

"It's games like this on the road where we were just struggling scoring," Adams said. "We missed a lot of buckets at the basket. Sometimes the game feels like it is going worse than it really is. When you go back and look, there were a lot of good things happening."

Gulf Coast returns to the friendly confines of Dantzler Arena on Thursday. The Bulldogs host Mississippi Delta at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available at http://mgcccbulldogs.com/tickets, and the game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.
