PERKINSTON — The Mississippi Gulf Coast women's basketball team went cold in the second half Monday against Southwest Mississippi and lost 67-43 at the Weathers-Wentzell Center.
The Bulldogs (1-3/0-4 MACCC South) managed only five points in the third quarter and 15 in the half after trailing 32-28 at halftime.
Alisha Tucker (Fr., McComb/McComb) had 12 points for Gulf Coast, and Kelsi Jackson chipped in nine.
After Southwest (2-1, 2-1) made the first bucket of the second quarter, the Bulldogs trailed 22-11 but clawed their way back into the game with a 6-0 run that featured two baskets by Beverly Tillman (Fr., Laurel/Laurel).
When Ayanna McNairy (Fr., Brookhaven/Brookhaven) hit a 3-pointer from the left wing with 20 seconds left, it was 32-30.
Gulf Coast returns to action Thursday when archrival Pearl River visits Perkinston. Tipoff will be at 6 p.m.
