MGCCC women lose to PRCC

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast lost to archrival Pearl River in women's basketball on Thursday, falling 70-55 at the Weathers-Wentzell Center.

The Bulldogs (1-5, 0-5 MACCC South) were led by Sharisse Bridges (Fr., Jackson/Callaway) with 18. Beverly Tillman had 14.

MGCCC trailed by as many as 12 in the first quarter, but an 8-0 run late in the second quarter cut the deficit to seven. PRCC (2-3, 2-3) led 37-28 at the half.

Beverly Tillman (Fr., Laurel/Laurel) made a free throw and a driving 2-pointer starting the fourth quarter, and when Kailyn Hammett buried a 3 the Bulldogs deficit was down to five points. Hammett would finish with nine points on three 3's in her Gulf Coast debut.

The Bulldogs, however, wouldn't get any closer.

Gulf Coast will travel to Decatur on Monday for its next game. Tipoff against East Central has been moved up to 3 p.m. because freezing rain and snow is possible that night.
