Bulldogs rally past Dolphins

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast fought back from a double-digit first-half lead Monday to win its last women's basketball game before Thanksgiving Break. The Bulldogs beat Delgado 61-57 at Dantzler Arena.

Katelyn Brinkley (So., Ridgeland/Ridgeland) had 14 of her 20 points in the second half to spark the comeback.

"We were able to attack the zone a little better during the second half," Gulf Coast coach Hope Adams said. "We knocked down some big shots during the second half. And, of course, Brinkley had a great night for us on the inside. That's what we've been looking for, that inside presence."

Brinkley was the only double-digit scorer for the Bulldogs. Brianna Black (Fr., Olive Branch/Olive Branch) and Riley Bishop (Fr., Gulfport/Hancock) had nine each.

Gulf Coast (4-2) trailed 28-17 in the second quarter, but they trimmed the deficit to 33-30 at the break. The Bulldogs took their first lead with four minutes left in the fourth quarter and held on.

"We're still trying to build that chemistry with the team so that we have everybody flowing on the same night together," Adams said. "With the depth of this team, I'm excited about the future. We're just having to get through some tough moments right now."

Gulf Coast plays the back end of a home-and-home with Delgado (1-7) next Monday. The Bulldogs tip off in New Orleans at 5:30 p.m.
